neenah creek elementary School
Neenah Creek Elementary School is a K-5 school in Briggsville, Wisconsin. The school is located next to wetlands and fields used by Sandhill Cranes, and the students are very lucky to see cranes (and their chicks!) each spring and fall outside their classrooms.
The fifth grade class at Neenah Creek Elementary has worked with the International Crane Foundation since 1997. Retired fifth grade teacher Sue Johnson shared her love of cranes and the environment with the students, teaching them how to track banded Sandhill Cranes (the cranes are banded with small radio transmitters by researchers studying the birds), and developing a prairie garden on their school grounds.
In 2007 and 2008, educators from China (above right) and Russia visited Neenah Creek Elementary through the Three White Cranes project, sharing student artwork and stories about the cranes and people of east Asia with the Wisconsin students (read more about these visits).
