The Jasper-Pulaski Fish and Wildlife Area is managed for public fishing and hunting and protects over 8,000 acres (3,000 hectares) of wetland and forest habitat in eastern Indiana. Over 10,000 Sandhill Cranes stop at the wildlife refuge during their fall migration to rest and feed on waste grain in nearby agricultural fields. Since returning to the eastern United States, Whooping Cranes have joined Sandhill Cranes as annual visitors to the wildlife area.
