Gilchrist Elementary School
In January 2009 tthe students and staff of Gilchrist Elementary in Tallahassee, FL became human drops of paint while conceptual artist, Dan Dancer, created a work of art molding the students and faculty into the image of a Whooping Crane. Dancer, of Art For the Sky, visited Gilchrist for a week to bring his message of environmentalism through assemblies, songs, and art. The Whooping Crane was selected as the image due to its unique ties to neighboring St. Marks National Wildlife Refuge, one of two wintering sites for the reintroduced Whooping Cranes in western Florida. The teachers and students at Gilchrist Elementary have been studying Whooping Cranes with the help of the St. Marks Wildlife Refuge staff. Photo by Bob O'Lary
