Northeast China Tianjin Poyang Lake Yakutia Yakutia As in the United States, a series of nature reserves protect important habitat for cranes along the East Asia flyway in Russia and China. In Russia, remote nature reserves protect breeding areas for the Siberian and Lesser Sandhill Cranes (the latter winter in the southern United States and Mexico), while reserves further south protect important migratory stop-over locations for Siberian Cranes and breeding areas for Red-crowned and White-naped Cranes. A network of wetlands in Northeast China protect migratory and breeding habitats for six species of cranes, while wetlands in eastern China along the flyway link with wintering areas in the Poyang Lake Basin.
