Flyway Activities

Project educators in China, led by Beijing Brooks Education Center (BBEC), are coordinating several flyway-level activities in the Chinese schools:

  • BBEC is coordinating a student essay and wetland photo contest, using disposable cameras distributed to the flyway schools. Click here to view examples of the student essays and photos!

  • For the past two summers, BBEC has organized a student camp and teacher training workshop at Xianghai Nature Reserve in Jilin Province. Educators from the United States and Taiwan lead the training activities for the Chinese teachers and nature reserve staff in 2007. Over forty students participated in the camp, which focused on cranes and wetland conservation (click here to learn more about the camp program).

  • BBEC is working with Tianjin teachers to develop a biology handbook
for middle and high school teachers
. The handbook was distributed to Tianjin schools in September 2007, followed by a half-day training workshop for over 60 teachers at Yu Xian Secondary School, a Three White Cranes
    project school in Tianjin.

  • Educators from Russia visited several project sites along the China flyway in fall 2007. These activities are part of regular educator exchanges involving staff from the three project countries (China, Russia and the United States). Click here to read a summary of this activity.
